COUNTRY ESCAPES
Head west from Brisbane backpackers and you’ll eventually bump into the Great Dividing Range. Ancient Explorers were once lured over the ranges with the prospect of grazing and farming bounty, but today’s backpacker traveller seek cold nights warmed by open fires, sweeping views of farmland and quaint small towns with cosy cabins or bed and breakfast accommodation. Boonah, Toowoomba, Lamington National Park and Kenilworth are on our list of top inland destinations.
NORTHERN NSW
Just over the border, this is a blessed part of the world and Brisbane Backpackers are blessed to be so close to it for a city escape. Northern NSW boasts dense rainforests, rows of fruit trees, hippy-influenced towns and miles of beaches. Once a good day’s drive away, improved roads have put northern NSW within easy reach. Among the area’s top spots, Kingscliff, Byron Bay and Hastings Point are all winners.
